THE BALLAD OF JEBEDIAH SHINE

The night was black and thunder roared – lightning struck the seven pines

That beat a path to the cabin door – down in the hollow by Yaskers mine

A candle flickered against the window pane – a womans voice shreiked again & again

True believers made a sign of the cross at the coming of Jebediah Shine

He used the shadows and he used them well

He came with the toll of the chapel bell

they wish they could send him straight back to hell

Jebediah Shine

That night to their eternal shame – they abandoned that baby to the wind and rain

They laid him down in a shady grove – waited for the break of day

He used the shadows and he used them well

He came with the toll of the chapel bell

he dragged them all straight back to hell

Jebediah Shine

Each one hoping as if as one – the problem would be gone at the rising of the sun

And the good lord would take the soul of the new born Jebediah Shine

The left him there with only sky for roof

Picked up and raised by a momma wolf

They say his daddy was a full grown bear

Jebediah Shine is everywhere

He used the shadows and he used them well

He came with the toll of the chapel bell

he dragged them all straight back to hell

Jebediah Shine
